Food Trade

Vision Statement:

InFERG’s research and education activities in this area aim to provide insights into the ways in which global trade in food is changing and the implications for stakeholders along the supply chain from producers, through food processors to consumers. These activities aimed to inform policy and business decision-makers and civil society.

List of Activities:

The activities of InFERG related to food trade address the following issues:

• Processes of change in global food trade and the determining factors.

• Role of food safety and quality standards in the trade performance of countries and of export firms.

• Determinants of the competitiveness and performance of agricultural and food exporting firms.

• Impact of national and domestic policies on the level, direction and composition of global food trade.

• Impact of global food trade and globalisation of supply chains on developing countries.

InFERG’s work in these areas predominantly presents an economic analysis, although we do draw on some other social science disciplines, especially with respect to methods of data collection and analysis. The geographical focus of this work is global.
