InFERG’s research and education activities aim to enhance understanding of the nature and processes of change in global food systems, focusing on the interactions between shifts in the demand and supply and implications for consumers, food businesses and government policy.

The activities of InFERG related to food system dynamics focus on a number of broad issues:
• Trends in food consumption patterns and related processes of change.
• Changes in the structure and modus operandi of global food supply systems and implications for consumers, food firms, producers, etc.
• Impacts of changes in global food systems on producers, food firms and consumers.
• Envisioning the future evolution of food systems and the economic and social implications.
Research takes as its starting point the theoretical and empirical tools of economics, but is informed by other social science disciplines. Activities in this area focus not only on Canada and the rest of North America, but globally.
