Food Security and Poverty

Vision Statement:

The research and education activities of InFERG contribute to understanding of the causes of food insecurity and poverty, predominantly in low and middle-income countries, and guide the design and implementation of policies aimed at their alleviation.

List of Activities:

The activities of InFERG related to food security and poverty focus on a number of specific issues:

• Role of microenterprise development in poverty alleviation.

• Livelihood impacts of smallholder participation in higher-value markets.

• HIV/AIDS, poverty and food security.

Research takes as its starting point the theoretical and empirical tools of economics, but is informed and employs approaches from other social science disciplines, most notably management and social psychology. The predominant geographical focus of this work is sub-Saharan Africa.
