Diet and Health

Vision Statement:

The research and education activities of InFERG aim to enhance understanding of the economics factors associated with diet and health in Canada and internationally. These activities focus on informing stakeholders and members of civil society regarding the role of food and diet in shaping positive health outcomes.

List of Activities:

The activities of InFERG in the area of diet and health focus on analysis of the following key issues:

• Understanding the factors associated with dietary change in support of enhanced health and wellness

• Consumer perception and acceptance of novel foods and agriculturally related products which carry positive health benefits

• Understanding the economic and socio-demographic factors associated with obesity

Our diet and health research takes as its starting point the theoretical and empirical tools of economics, but is informed and employs approaches from other social science disciplines, most notably social psychology, as well as the field of marketing. The predominant geographical focus of this work is Canada, the United States and Europe.
